Money & Costs

Money & Costs in Jamaica

Jamaica can be enjoyed on both a budget and a luxury scale.
Currency

The official currency is the Jamaican Dollar (JMD), but US Dollars (USD) are widely accepted, especially in tourist areas. However, paying in local currency often gets you a better deal.

Cost of Living

Budget Travelers: $50–$100 per day (guesthouses, street food, public transport).
Mid-Range Travelers: $100–$250 per day (3-star hotels, restaurants, guided tours).
Luxury Travelers: $250+ per day (all-inclusive resorts, fine dining, private transport).

Tipping Culture

Tipping is customary—10-15% at restaurants, and small tips for drivers, guides, and hotel staff are appreciated.

ATM & Credit Cards

ATMs are widely available, but rural areas may have limited access. Credit cards are accepted at major establishments but carry cash for small vendors.
